Purpose and Application
Pagnoni WHN and WN series Whistle Notch holders are engineered by Italian company Pagnoni Tools SRL for CNC milling machines and machining centers with SK 40 and SK 50 spindles acc. to ISO 7388-1 (formerly DIN 69871). Designed for rigid clamping of solid carbide and indexable end mills, drills, and boring tools featuring a cylindrical shank with a 2° inclined clamping flat per DIN 1835 Form E. Unlike standard Weldon chucks, the Whistle Notch shape enables precise offline tool length presetting via an axial adjusting screw.
Design and Features
The clamping screw bears against the 2° inclined flat on the shank, generating a dual force vector: radial (pressing against the bore wall) and axial (forcing the tool back against the adjusting stop screw). This completely prevents tool pullout under heavy axial cutting loads during milling operations. The WN series features a built-in axial adjusting screw allowing precise tool length presetting offline. Produced from case-hardened alloy steel hardened to HRC 58 ± 2 (case depth 0.4–0.5 mm). The body undergoes black oxide treatment (brunishing), while the taper is precision ground to quality < AT3 (DIN 7187 / DIN 2080). All holders undergo 100% final inspection and are fine balanced to G 6.3 at 12,000 rpm.
Compatibility
Tooling is designed for machine spindles with SK 40 and SK 50 tapers (ISO 7388-1 / DIN 69871). Compatible with end mills and cutting tools with DIN 1835 Form E Whistle Notch shanks. Holder mounting into the spindle is secured using pull studs conforming to DIN 69872 (e.g., Pagnoni 940TIR01, 950TIR01).
Selection Parameters
