Purpose and Application
Kemmler Combi shell mill holders per DIN 6358 are designed for CNC milling machines and machining centers equipped with SK 30, SK 40, and SK 50 spindles acc. to ISO 7388-1 (DIN 69871). They offer a universal solution for mounting shell end mills, face mills, and cutter heads. The versatility of the Combi system lies in its ability to fit tools with a longitudinal keyway (via a drive key) as well as tools with a transverse keyway (via a drive ring with drive dogs).
Design and Features
The holder is manufactured from case-hardened alloy steel. The mounting pilot is precision-machined to h6 tolerance. For tools with longitudinal keyways, a drive key is installed, while for tools with transverse drive slots, torque is transmitted via the drive ring dogs (Mitnehmerring). The cutting tool is secured with a central retaining screw with an internal coolant passage. Radial runout is ≤ 5 µm, and dynamic balancing complies with G 6.3 at 15,000 rpm. The holder body includes a pre-drilled bore for an RFID chip.
Compatibility
Tooling is compatible with machine spindles featuring SK 30, SK 40, and SK 50 tapers (ISO 7388-1 / DIN 69871). Designed for shell milling cutters with mounting bores per DIN 6358 in diameters of 16, 22, 27, 32, and 40 mm. Securing the arbor in the machine spindle is performed using pull studs per ISO 7388-3 (DIN 69872).
Selection Parameters
Selection is based on spindle taper (SK 30, SK 40, SK 50) and cutter mounting diameter DCONWS (16, 22, 27, 32, 40 mm). Gage lengths LF1 include standard executions (50–60 mm) and extended versions (100 mm and 160 mm) for deep milling. Coolant supply is implemented in Form AD (for SK 30) and Form AD/B (universal central/flange coolant supply for SK 40 and SK 50).
