The ideal drive

What exactly bothered Mitsubishi Electric's engineers about conventional drive systems? The need for lubrication, friction and the heat it generates, energy consumption, backlash, cogging torque and, above all, potential wear. Only a contact-free drive overcomes these drawbacks from the outset – and thus guarantees better results and greater reliability for decades.

At the speed of light

Mitsubishi Electric's polymer optical fibres offer decisive advantages not only over conventional copper cables but also over glass fibres. Their complete water resistance, high data transfer rate, minimal space requirements and maximum flexibility are essential for truly advanced EDM systems. All you will notice as a user is a longer service life and higher accuracy.

No disruptive cogging

You are probably familiar with the cogging torque of a conventional electric motor. This cogging torque is undesirable, as are torque fluctuations. The tubular shaft motor is the optimal drive for precision applications such as electrical discharge machining.

Even more precise axis movement – regardless of load

An extremely rigid machine base, top-class linear guides and precision assembly ensure the best wire-cutting results over the long term. The linear guide carriages use backlash-free bearings that do not touch each other during travel, providing maximum smoothness and virtually no rolling resistance.

The perfect climate – accurate to a tenth of a degree

Only when you have precise control over the machine, workpiece and dielectric can you control true accuracy. The integrated temperature control system automatically monitors and synchronises all parameters to suppress temperature fluctuations during cutting. All for the sake of accuracy!

Precise taper cutting

Far more accurate results thanks to maximum precision – even on tapers.

The MP2400 EDM machine responds faster and more precisely, reaching a better surface finish sooner. The new H-FS generator has a significantly higher effective pulse frequency. Voltage rises faster and more precisely thanks to reduced capacitance losses. This faster voltage rise makes it possible to shorten spark duration and lower the working voltage.

What you will most likely notice is a better surface finish and lower energy costs. The standard SD-FS delivers the finest finish – down to Ra 0.05 µm in tungsten carbide.

Twice as fast spark detection

The high-speed digital control works twice as fast as conventional machines – an excellent basis for flawless machining results in terms of both geometric accuracy and surface roughness.

Parallelism in the micrometre range

Parallelism of cutting passes within < ±2 µm at a cutting height of 100 mm – a toolmakers' requirement fulfilled by the MP series.

Surface roughness of 0.05 µm

The new SD-FS fine-finishing generator comes as standard on the MP series. Its range ensures an outstanding surface finish at cutting heights of up to 130 mm.
